Reading Improvement

In addition to working with my English Language Learners, I was asked to take extra groups for Reading Improvement. These students had multiple issues, but most striking was their lack of fluency and expression. I divided them into sub-groups and assigned projects for them to work on these skills. Together we recorded the results in a slide video format. The kids loved these projects and often hunted me down in the building to ask for extra reading sessions. Imagine that! Here is one example.

Cousin Joel

I have this third cousin who lives in Door County, WI in the town of Fish Creek. His name is Joel and he's an accomplished musician, composer, and director. His musical interest is in the Czech heritage from his father's side of the family. He has honors given to him in the Czech Republic for his work with Czech folk music including the library of Czech folk music named after him.

He sent me this photograph of himself conducting his composition "Inventions #1" as it was performed by the Prague Castle Guard Band, "The Czech President's Own," in Frantisek Lazne, Czech Republic. Congratulations to cousin Joel.
